History
From bleedcubbieblue.com, yesterday:

Stop what you're doing right now and look around you, remember where you are, what you are doing, because this is an historic day in Cubs history.

You'd have to be over 70 years old (and there may be a few here, but not many) to really remember the last time a Cubs team was 33 games over .500. It was on September 30, 1945...

And we all know the significance of 1945, right? Today is a great day.

Oh yeah, and our African American junior senator was nominated for President last night. He's a White Sox fan but I'll forgive him for that. Between baseball and politics, I don't know how I'm going to get anything done during the next two months, but it's a hell of an exciting time in the city right now.

It was a dark and stormy night

I got to spend part of yesterday evening huddled with Foley on her bed down in the basement with a lantern and my old walkman while the rain pelted the house and the tornado siren howled a few blocks away. Funny how with all the high-tech gadgetry in the house, during times of emergency it's the AM radio and the camping gear that save the day.

Our power was off for about 16 hours altogether. The ice cream, sadly, did not make it.

The lightning show however was amazing. The one sad picture I managed to capture doesn't do it justice; it was a nonstop fireworks display for hours. Made me miss our 28th floor apartment, just for a minute.
